Reserve Bank of India Scholarship - RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme 2009

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme to generate interest in and awareness about the Indian banking sector and RBI. Under the scheme, the RBI will select a maximum of 150 young scholars through a countrywide competitive examination and awarded a scholarship.

Selection test will focus on the role and functions of RBI and banks in India and will be held in English as well as all major regional languages. Selected candidates will be required to work on projects in select offices of RBI for 2 to 3 months and will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs 7,500/- per month during the duration of the project. RBI will assist outstation awardees in boarding and lodging. The awareness shall have no right/claim for an appointment in the RBI. Any candidate who had qualified and worked at RBI under the RBI Young Scholar Award Scheme in any of the previous years need not apply again.

Eligibility

(A) Educational Qualification: All students across India who have completed 10 + 2 years of formal education or its equivalent from recognized institutions/boards in 2009 or before and are currently pursuing their undergraduate studies. However, those having enrolled for or having acquired degree(s) higher than graduation will not be eligible. Candidates who have qualified and worked at RBI as a Young Scholar in any of the previous years are not eligible to apply.

(B) Age : Candidates should be of age 18 years or more but less than 23 years as on September 1, 2009.All students, between 18 and 23 years of age, currently pursuing their undergraduate studies in any subject under any recognized university in India, are eligible to take the competitive examination.

There is no application fee
The selection test will be held on January 10, 2010 at various centres across India.
The results of the selection test are likely to be announced in the middle of March 2010.

Entrance Examination

The entrance exam will be conducted in English, Hindi and 11 other regional languages. The regional languages will be Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The exam will be held at around 100 different locations spread all across the country. The List of Centresis given in this notification.

Examination Pattern and Syllabus

The examination will be of objective type with multiple choices for answers. The paper will be of approximately 90 minutes duration and will have questions related to role and functioning of the RBI, the trend of banking industry in India and general economic and financial environment of the country.

* Candidates willing to apply for the scholarship may apply in the prescribed application form available on http://www.rbi.org.in/youngscholars.aspx either on line or offline. There is no fee for application or examination.

(A) Guidelines for Online Application

* Candidates should have a valid email ID.

* Go to the website and follow the instructions.

* After applying online, the registered candidates should obtain a system generated printout of the registered information and sign at the appropriate place. A recent photograph should be pasted on the print-out and sent along with attested copies of the certificate on the address given below :

10. Last Date for Receipt of Application

The application and/or print-outs of application made online should reach the address mentioned above before October 21, 2009 by ordinary post. For the candidates staying abroad and for those posting print-out from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Minicoy Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of J & K State, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, the last date for receipt of Print-out will be October 28, 2009. A print-out received after the last date will not be entertained.

Call Letter for the Written Test

Call letters for the written test to be held on January 10, 2010 will be posted to all the candidates through ordinary post under certificate of posting well in advance. However, if somebody does not get the same by January 5, 2010 he/she should download the same from the RBI website. To download the duplicate call letter candidates should know their application registration number which will also be sent by email to the candidates who provide a valid email- id. Alternately, name and date of birth details can also be used for downloading the call letter from the website.

NASA Space Settlement Contest

NASA Space Settlement Contest

This annual contest, co-sponsored by NASA Ames and the National Space Society (NSS) is for 6-12th graders (11-18 years old) from anywhere in the world. Individuals, small teams of two to six, and large teams of seven or more (often whole classrooms with teacher leadership) may enter. Grades 6-9 and 10-12 are judged separately, except for the grand prize. Students develop space settlement designs and related materials. These are sent to NASA Ames for judgement.

Submissions must be received by March 31. Contest Results will be posted on this site on April 30.

Invitation to Meritorious Students
Applications are invited from students to participate in the International Olympiads 2010 in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and junior science, There will be five stages for selection. Stage one is National Standard Examinations in physics (NSEP), chemistry (NSEC), biology (NSEB), Astronomy (NSEA junior and senior) and in junior science (NSEJS) which will be held on November 22. Last date for enrolment is September 15.

About 300 toppers in each subject will qualify for stage II, that is, Indian National Olympiad in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy (junior and senior) and junior science. The third stage involves attending orientation-cum-selection camps in each subject. In the fourth stage, the selected teams undergo pre-departure training, and in the fifth stage, they participate in the respective International Olympiads,

NTPC Scholarships 2009

NTPC Limited, a public sector enterprises in power sector invites application from Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes students pursuing full time diploma course in Electrical / Mechanical / Instrumentation / Electronics / Civil in any of the institution recognized by the Government. NIIT Bhavishya Jyoti Scholarship Test 2009 on September 13

THE 19th Bhavishya Jyoti Scholarship Test‘ will be conducted on Sunday, September 13, by Global Talent Development Corporation, NIIT, across the country.

KISHORE VAIGYANIK PROTSAHAN YOJANA (KVPY) 2009

Applications are invited for KVPY FELLOWSHIPS for school and college students interested in research careers

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, offers attractive fellowships (Rs.4000 to Rs.7000 p.m) and contingency grants (equivalent of four months fellowships) to students studying in XI standard to B.Sc / Integrated M.Sc., and I/II year of B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch/MBBS. Selection to the program takes into account academic excellence and demonstrated interest in research.

Selection is open to Indian nationals studying in India.

ELIGIBILITY:

BASIC SCIENCES
• Stream SA : Students enrolled in the XI Standard (Science subjects) during the academic year 2009 – 2010 and have secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board Examination.

• Stream SB + 2 (SX) : Students enrolled in class 12 (+2) during the academic year 2009 – 2010 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (B.Sc / Int. M.Sc) for the session 2010 – 2011 provided they secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board Examination.

• Stream SB : Students enrolled in 1st year B. Sc / Int. M.Sc. during the academic year 2009 – 2010 and have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects in the XII Standard Board Examination.

• Stream SP (Basic Sciences) : Students enrolled in XI/XII standard, I/II year (B.Sc./Int. M.Sc.) in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2009 – 2010 and have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in the X & XII Standard Board Examinations. A hard copy of an original and creative science based research project is required along with the application.

ENGINEERING
• Stream SP (Engineering) : Students enrolled in I/II year B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch. during the academic year 2009 – 2010 and have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in the X and XII Standard Board Examinations. Students enrolled in the II year B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch. program must have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in the I year examination. A hard copy of an original and creative science / engineering based research project is required along with the application.

MEDICINE
• Stream SP (Medicine): Students enrolled in I/II professional year of the MBBS program during the academic year 2009 – 2010 and have secured 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects in the XII Standard Board Examination. Students enrolled in the II professional year of the MBBS program must have secured 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in the I year examination .

A hard copy of an original and creative Bio-Medical project is required along with the application.

GENERAL :
• Each Stream has its own application form. Students who wish to apply for more than one stream should submit separate applications.

• Applicants may apply either by Hard copy or Online. (http://www.iisc.ernet.in/kvpy).

• Application forms may be downloaded from the KVPY Website. Those who are unable to do so, may request for a Hard copy.

• A hard copy of the application form can be obtained from KVPY on request by remitting a processing fee of Rs. 200/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST) at any core banking branches of STATE BANK OF INDIA, to the credit of Administrative Executive, KVPY A/c. No. 10270577392”. The “pay-in-slip” should be sent along with the request clearly indicating the stream (i.e., SA, SB + 2 (SX), SB, SP, etc.).

SC/ST candidates should provide a copy of the caste certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed proforma.

Israel Government Scholarship – 2009-10.

LAST DATE: 31-10-2008

Applications are invited from Indian nationals on plain paper in the format given below for the award of about 5 – 7 Israeli Government Scholarship tenable from October 2009 to study at an Israeli University or any Institution of higher education in Israel. These scholarships are for research/specialization for 8 months (One academic year) and would be available for studies in the following subjects:

i) Comparative Study of Religions (With specific reference to Judaism)

ii) Middle East Studies

iii) Hebrew language and literature

iv) History of the Jewish people

v) Agriculture

vi) Chemistry

vii) Biology

viii) Nano-Biology

ix) Economics

x) Business Management

xi) Mass Communication

xii) Environment Studies.

2. Age: There is no upper age limit for applying for this scholarship.

3. Qualification: (1) For the research/specialization studies, a Masters degree with 60% or more marks as on 31-10-2008 for the subject of Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Nano-Biology & Environment Studies and Masters degree with 55% or more marks for the remaining subjects. Proof of English or Hebrew Language knowledge is must. The applicant should meet the academic requirements of the Israeli University that he/she applies to.

4. Value of Scholarship:

  • Terms and conditions of the scholarship will change every year according to the yearly budget.

  • The scholarship could be partial, or in rare cases full.

  • Partial scholarship will include health insurance and tuition fees OR

  • Monthly allowance for one academic year (8 months only). Full scholarship will include tuition fees, a monthly allowance and health insurance.

  • Accommodation, transportation and travel arrangements to and from Israel are the applicant's responsibility.

  • Scholarships will be granted only in universities and programs approved by the Ministry.

  • Scholarships for Ulpan language studies will be granted in the Ulpan chosen by the Ministry only.

5. Submission of application:

Application should include following:

i) Dully filled application form.

ii) Detailed letter describing the field the applicant intends to study in Israel, specifying the University he/she wishes to attend.

iii) Curriculum Viatae

iv) Copies of letters exchanged with Israeli universities or the Israeli supervisor (in the case of a research or Post Doctorate)

v) Official original academic records (or notarized copies) of all relevant studies and test scores, diplomas attesting the completion of an academic degree, including a transcript of the student's records.

vi) At least two (2) letters of recommendation from lecturers/professors who taught the candidates.

vii) Attested Photocopies of all degree/certificates including the certificate indicating date of birth.

7. Last Date for submission of application: Application on plain paper (as per format given below) alongwith the required photocopies of documents with a recent passport size photograph pasted on the application should reach the ‘Section Officer, ES-3 Section, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, A.1/W.3, Curzon Road Barracks, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi-110 001’ latest by 5.30 PM on 31-10-2008. Applications received after 31-10-2008 will not be entertained. (Applications can also be submitted online at the Department’s website www.education.nic.in by 31-10-2008. NOTES:

1. Candidates who are awaiting the results need not apply if the results have not been declared by 31-10-2008.

2. Equivalent foreign degree will be considered.

3. Candidates who have already been abroad for study/research/training for more than six months at a time either on a scholarship or on their own, are eligible to apply only if they have been in India for at least two years after their return from abroad as on 20-10-2008. Applications of candidates, who are abroad will not be considered.

4. Candidates should have adequate knowledge of geographical situation, culture and heritage of Israel and India.

5. Applications in subject-fields, other than those prescribed, will not be considered. A candidate can apply only in one subject.

6. Employed candidates must send their applications through their employers with “ No Objection Certificate”. However, an advance application can be submitted with the understanding that the application through employer should reach before the date of interview. Otherwise candidates will not be allowed to appear for interview. Advance application must be complete in all respects.

7. Candidates must attach with the application a description in at least 500 words of his project/proposal of study/research to be undertaken in Israel.

8. In case no interview letter is received by a candidate, who applied in response to the advertisement by last week of November 2008, it may be presumed that he/she has not been short listed for interview. No correspondence will be entertained in this regard.

9. Applications, which are incomplete or unsigned, will not be considered.

10. Canvassing in any from will disqualify the candidature of the applicants.

11. While indicating the period of past experience and stay abroad, candidate should mention the specific dates.

12. As these scholarships are offered by foreign Govts, the applications should be submitted in English only.

13. Candidates who do not possess the essential qualifications need not apply.

14. THE DECISION OF SELECTION COMMITTEE SHALL BE FINAL. NO REPRESENTATION IN THIS REGARD WILL BE ENTERTAINED.

15. The final Selection of the nominated candidates rests with THE GOVERNMENT of Israel.

16. Mere fulfillment of minimum requirements as laid down in the advertisement does not qualify a candidate for interview. Interview letters are sent only to limited number of candidates after their applications are examined by the committee of experts.

17. The applicants who are in employment to which they wish to return should have an assurance that if their nomination is successful, they will be granted sufficient leave of absence.
