Reserve Bank of India Scholarship - RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme 2009

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme to generate interest in and awareness about the Indian banking sector and RBI. Under the scheme, the RBI will select a maximum of 150 young scholars through a countrywide competitive examination and awarded a scholarship.

Selection test will focus on the role and functions of RBI and banks in India and will be held in English as well as all major regional languages. Selected candidates will be required to work on projects in select offices of RBI for 2 to 3 months and will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs 7,500/- per month during the duration of the project. RBI will assist outstation awardees in boarding and lodging. The awareness shall have no right/claim for an appointment in the RBI. Any candidate who had qualified and worked at RBI under the RBI Young Scholar Award Scheme in any of the previous years need not apply again.

Eligibility

(A) Educational Qualification: All students across India who have completed 10 + 2 years of formal education or its equivalent from recognized institutions/boards in 2009 or before and are currently pursuing their undergraduate studies. However, those having enrolled for or having acquired degree(s) higher than graduation will not be eligible. Candidates who have qualified and worked at RBI as a Young Scholar in any of the previous years are not eligible to apply.

(B) Age : Candidates should be of age 18 years or more but less than 23 years as on September 1, 2009.All students, between 18 and 23 years of age, currently pursuing their undergraduate studies in any subject under any recognized university in India, are eligible to take the competitive examination.

There is no application fee
The selection test will be held on January 10, 2010 at various centres across India.
The results of the selection test are likely to be announced in the middle of March 2010.

Entrance Examination

The entrance exam will be conducted in English, Hindi and 11 other regional languages. The regional languages will be Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The exam will be held at around 100 different locations spread all across the country. The List of Centresis given in this notification.

Examination Pattern and Syllabus

The examination will be of objective type with multiple choices for answers. The paper will be of approximately 90 minutes duration and will have questions related to role and functioning of the RBI, the trend of banking industry in India and general economic and financial environment of the country.

How to Apply

* Candidates willing to apply for the scholarship may apply in the prescribed application form available on http://www.rbi.org.in/youngscholars.aspx either on line or offline. There is no fee for application or examination.

(A) Guidelines for Online Application

* Candidates should have a valid email ID.

* Go to the website and follow the instructions.

* After applying online, the registered candidates should obtain a system generated printout of the registered information and sign at the appropriate place. A recent photograph should be pasted on the print-out and sent along with attested copies of the certificate on the address given below :

Fill the form completely and paste your photograph at the appropriate place, sign at appropriate space and attach attested copies of all the relevant documents.

10. Last Date for Receipt of Application

The application and/or print-outs of application made online should reach the address mentioned above before October 21, 2009 by ordinary post. For the candidates staying abroad and for those posting print-out from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Minicoy Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of J & K State, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, the last date for receipt of Print-out will be October 28, 2009. A print-out received after the last date will not be entertained.

The Reserve Bank of India/Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will not be responsible for any loss of application/print-out in transit or for rejection of application print-out because of non-receipt of print-out on or before the stipulated date.

Call Letter for the Written Test

Call letters for the written test to be held on January 10, 2010 will be posted to all the candidates through ordinary post under certificate of posting well in advance. However, if somebody does not get the same by January 5, 2010 he/she should download the same from the RBI website. To download the duplicate call letter candidates should know their application registration number which will also be sent by email to the candidates who provide a valid email- id. Alternately, name and date of birth details can also be used for downloading the call letter from the website.

GATE 2010 Entrance Exam Notification

What is GATE ?

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee comprising faculty from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Admission to post graduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy or Master degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications are eligible for Master/Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must additionally secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy who may be seeking scholarship/assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes.

The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2010 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati , designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2010.
ELIGIBILITY FOR GATE

The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE :

1. Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
2. Master degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
3. Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
4. Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AMICE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

What is new in GATE 2010

1.New Paper introduced in GATE 2010: Biotechnology (BT) has been introduced as an independent paper from GATE 2010.
2.Common Component of General Aptitude (GA) introduced in GATE 2010: Each GATE paper shall have a common General Aptitude (GA) component carrying 15 marks from GATE 2010.
3.Papers to be discontinued from GATE 2010 onwards:
* Due to introduction of an independent paper in Biotechnology (BT), the Biotechnology section in Life Sciences (XL) paper has been discontinued from GATE 2010.
* There will not be GATE 2010 examination in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PY) paper. For more information about the organization which will be conducting a GATE like examination for PY, the candidates are advised to visit GATE 2010 website from time to time.
4.ONLINE Examination for MN and TF paper:
* Computer based ONLINE examination for the paper MN will be held in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, Roorkee on February 07, 2010 (Sunday) at 09.30 hrs – 12.30 hrs

DesignChef - Online Design Contest

DesignChef Logo Challenge Rules, Guidelines, Deliverables and Selection Process

Rules

* The first DesignChef Logo Challenge is to create a new logo and favicon for the site.
* You will be able to register and upload your submissions on the site from July 1st to August 1st.
* You can submit multiple entries.
* A panel of experts will judge all submissions.
* Winners will be announced on Aug 5th.
* Although the competition is open to anyone, only users from India are eligible for prizes.

Guidelines

* The logo must include the words "DesignChef" written as "DESIGNCHEF" or “DesignChef”. The logo must also include the words “A Directi Initiative” using the Directi Logo.

NASA Space Settlement Contest

NASA Space Settlement Contest

This annual contest, co-sponsored by NASA Ames and the National Space Society (NSS) is for 6-12th graders (11-18 years old) from anywhere in the world. Individuals, small teams of two to six, and large teams of seven or more (often whole classrooms with teacher leadership) may enter. Grades 6-9 and 10-12 are judged separately, except for the grand prize. Students develop space settlement designs and related materials. These are sent to NASA Ames for judgement.

Submissions must be received by March 31. Contest Results will be posted on this site on April 30.

Invitation to Meritorious Students
Applications are invited from students to participate in the International Olympiads 2010 in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and junior science, There will be five stages for selection. Stage one is National Standard Examinations in physics (NSEP), chemistry (NSEC), biology (NSEB), Astronomy (NSEA junior and senior) and in junior science (NSEJS) which will be held on November 22. Last date for enrolment is September 15.

About 300 toppers in each subject will qualify for stage II, that is, Indian National Olympiad in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy (junior and senior) and junior science. The third stage involves attending orientation-cum-selection camps in each subject.
